Set out by the European Council in Lisbon in March 2000, the Lisbon Strategy, also known as the Lisbon Agenda or Lisbon Process, is an action and development plan for the European Union aiming to make the EU "the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion [...] by 2010". So, 2010 will be a year of summing-up for European and national progresses in education and training.
IREA proposes a „Looking back & Looking forward” kind of event - the 3rd National Conference of Adult Education - which is aimed to facilitate the analysis of progress achieved till 2010 and to identify the „to do’s” for the next ten years, mainly into the Romanian adult education, in relation with the European trends and developments.
At the 1st National Conference of Adult Education: Adult Education in Romania – Educational, cultural and social policies, Timisoara, 15-17.06.2001, the participants, in the Declaration of the conference, were drawing the fields of acting for developing the Romanian system for the education of adults. The 3rd national event aims to foster the debate and reflections of the relevant actors in adult education in Romania, together with experts from European level, on what, how was (not) achieved and why, and, based on the lessons learnt, to identify the ways of going on.
The event we are proposing, even though national, is one with international participation, therefore, together with European experts, we will be able to compare the Romanian achievements in the continuing adult education, in regard to the European developments, regarding on what has been achieved or not, how it has been achieved or why, in order to reflect on what is to do in the next decade, based on the conclusions and the lessons learned.
The topics of debate (also possible titles for the workshops, where you are invited to submit your contribution), in line with the main messages of the European policy for the education of adults, are:
A happy coincidence is the fact that IREA is celebrating 10 years of activity in the field of adult education on national and European level in 2010.
